And the Thunder Rolls...

...and the lightning strikes. Thursday night was our first home football game against the 5-A Sachse Mustangs. When we arrived to the game, the weather seemed perfect with a nice cool breeze and a peek of sun. Then, the scoreboard flashed that there would be a thirty-minute delay due to some lightning. We patiently waited, tried a new flavor of airheads, and before we knew it, our boys were running out for game time. Sachse scored a touchdown within the first twenty-seven seconds of the game, and I was hoping and praying that this wasn't any kind of foreshadowing of our defensive games to come. Before we knew it, rain started coming down hard, and our wives' section of the bleachers headed straight up the elevator to the press box. None of us had even thought about bringing an umbrella. The game was once more delayed due to lightning. Here's a football, lightning rule for ya: When lightning is spotted at least three miles away, the game is delayed for thirty minutes. Each time lightning is spotted within that same radius again...the thirty minutes starts over. I'm pretty sure we were in the press box, wives and children, for at least an hour, if not more. Then, both teams headed back on the field for some more football. Most of us left at halftime, which was at 10:30 at this point. I don't think Shawn got home until 1:30 A.M. The final game ended in a sad, 35-47 loss. Better luck next time, boys!

I'm so glad I brought crayons and coloring books...this really helped pass the time for the kiddos.
