Counting Our Blessings

Last week at church it was Orphan Sunday. All the families in the church were challenged to pray about their part in response to the orphan crisis in our world. We learned that there are OVER 5,000 new orphans PER DAY. As Shawn and I continue to pray about our part, there was something we knew we could do immediately, while teaching Faith and Jaxon an invaluable lesson at the same time. Our church partnered up with Samaritan's Purse to take up a church wide donation of shoeboxes with toys and needs for the orphans. We decided to let Faith and Jaxon both choose an orphan in the 2-4 year old age range, since they would know what their new, little friend would like the most (as far as toys go). It was such a great opportunity to talk to Faith and Jaxon about how unfortunate many children are, and how blessed they truly are to have parents, food, toys...and the list goes on and on.

We made our way to Allen and started shopping at the Dollar Tree. We started out with major needs, brushes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, etc. Next, we made our way to the educational area, and the kids picked out crayons, coloring books, puzzles, etc. Finally, we let them pick out two, small toys for their shoebox.

When we got home, Shawn helped the kids put their shoeboxes together, and they both prayed specifically for the child receiving the shoebox. The most important ingredient to the shoebox is faithfully praying for the child. The kid's prayers were so sweet and they both said they were so thankful for their new friend.

Faith and Jaxon, may you never take for granted the blessed life you have, and always be quick to help those in need.
Don't they have such good taste? :)

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
