Penne Play

For several weeks now, Faith has been asking me to wear my jewelry. Unfortunately for her, I won't let her play with my jewelry, in fear that I won't have anymore bling to wear! So, the day before we left for vacation, I told her that we would dye some penne pasta, and when we came back from vacation; they'd be dry and colored to make jewelry. She was SUPER excited and was just smiling from ear to ear! I had one problem, though, I had no rubbing alcohol...very essential for evaporation and dying purposes, and I didn't just want to use water. I told myself that I wasn't going out anywhere because we were going to be out for a few days on vacation. So, it was time to improvise! I rummaged through my bathroom cabinets and did not find any rubbing alcohol. I checked my pantry and my spice rack for something that had alcohol as the first ingredient and the first thing I found was Almond Extract!

So, we came back from vacation and the pasta was all dry and brightly colored. The pasta had a nice almond aroma smell to it. We had to make a trip to the grocery store today because we had absolutely NOTHING in our house to eat or drink. When we got home, Faith asked about making the jewelry...but I had another problem...no string! I was not about to go to the grocery store for string. So, once again, we improvised and used dental floss. Boy, did we really have to get domestic for this little project! Anyway, she had a good time stringing the pasta through the dental floss. Faith her own little pattern going on the necklace...blue, red, yellow, etc. We made her a necklace and bracelet. She wanted earrings, but that was next to impossible to do for several reasons. Next time I will make sure I have all the supplies before telling Faith we're going to make something. Oh life's little lessons...
Waiting for the pasta to dry...
Stringing through some pasta....opps, her Elmo panties are showing...
Showing off her new pasta necklace...
And, let's not forget the bling, bling bracelet.
