Fossil Rim

WOW! Where to start...we've had a great day today. This morning our little family got ready and headed out to Glen Rose, TX to check out Fossil Rim. We've been reading a lot of animal books lately to prepare them for our little adventure. The kids had a great time feeding all the animals, and I think they were amazed at how close the animals were in proximity to their faces. We had all sorts of deer, giraffe, zebra, etc, sticking their entire face inside of our SUV--talk about some hungry animals! We were even showered with a little bit of slobber, thank you, Mr. Deer. We were able to feed the animals the $7.95 bag of food that FR provided us with, and we were very careful to let the kids know that the food was only for the animals. My kids are big eaters, so I wasn't taking any chances on letting them eat the animal food that looked like hardened dung!

Let me unpackage this quick video for you. We were warned that the ostrich are pretty aggressive, which we already knew. In fact, any car that had any adornments hanging on the outside of their vehicle were asked to remove them, because of this not-so-docile animal. We were told that we could feed the ostrich, but to quickly throw the food on the ground. Shawn was pretty hesitant to throw any food out of the window...it was hilarious! Good times!

Check out the massive foot on this ostrich.

The antelope were the only animals that we were NOT allowed to feed, because they fight over the food. Poor guys got the short end of the stick with food and with their crazy-looking horns.
A little driving lesson at the fast speed of 15 mph.

Jaxon throwing some food out to the animals.

Right around the corner from Fossil Rim is Dinosaur World. We pulled into the parking lot...
but found two sleeping children in the back seat...

...so, we decided to take a rain check and visit the one-hundred dinosaurs another time.

So fun! We'd talked about going there this summer, in lieu of a "real" vacation...

Love fossil rim! It is our "after Thanksgiving" tradition. We don't care for the ostrich either! Glad you had a good time! :-)
