Touring the Past

Shawn had a former athlete of his call us the other night asking if we would show him around A&M-Commerce, as he is hoping to transfer from UMHB to TAMU-Commerce in the Fall. We of course said yes, as we haven't been back to Commerce in like seven years. Sure, we've passed through the town of Commerce, but we haven't actually walked the campus like little college students in a while. Shawn spent his first two years in college at UNT, and I started my freshman year at TWU, and we enjoyed being in Denton together. After we got married, though, we decided to go to TAMU-Commerce, because Shawn had two extra years of eligibility in football. Yes, it's all about the football here with us Copeland's :)

This morning I told Faith and Jaxon that we were going to visit the college that mommy and daddy attended to get their degrees in teaching. Actually, my diction choice was this, "Faith and Jaxon, today we're going to visit mommy and daddy's old school where we got our smiley-faced certificates from." I knew they could relate to that in a heartbeat. As I walked the campus, I was surprised at how much we remembered, down to the building names and everything. There is so much that has changed, as well. Anyway, here are some pictures we snapped, walking down memory lane.

The Rec Center that some of our tuition money went to, yet we never reaped the benefits. The glassed-in area in a huge rock-climbing wall.
I sure miss watching Shawn play and coach at this football stadium.
Interesting, when Shawn and I first got married, we lived in THIS apartment complex for the first three months of marriage. Now, when you drive through the complex, it looks like Armageddon hit. The windows are boarded up, blinds are turned every which way, the cars in the parking lot look like they haven't moved in forever, etc. When you call the number on the sign, the operator comes on, too. So, the picture above is actually the most pleasant part of the complex that I could find. Sad, I know.
Here's Faith just pushing her brother around in the stroller...one of her favorite things to do when we go out.

WOW, we spent our lives in this building, but definitely love our profession of choice.

After we left Commerce, I was very sad that I forgot to get a picture of the most important building on campus to me. It's the place in college where I spent most of my time, time in prayer, time in worship, time working on projects and ministries, even time leading college students to Christ. The Baptist Student Ministry. I was elected President of the Ministry for all the years I attended TAMU-Commerce. I must say that being apart of this ministry was very rewarding and fulfilling. I will never forget the people I grew close to, but most importantly, I will never forget how my relationship with Jesus Christ grew. Luckily, I have pictures of the building and all those memories in storage.

Yeah for Commerce! Did you go to the Walmart? That was my favorite place in town. :) Of course, right now I'd give anything to go to a Walmart!
