Yesterday afternoon, after VBS, we headed to Greenville for a little fun. We met Stacy, Maci, and Dylan for lunch at one of our favorite places, Chick-Fil-A. The one in Greenville is pretty new, and it was nice to let the kids run around in the play area while Stacy and I caught up on some much needed adult conversation. We must have arrived at the perfect time, because the kids had the play area all to themselves After that, we went over to their house to play some more. The kids really had a great time and they were both very sad to leave. Little did they know that mommy had a surprise in store for them. I decided to take the kids to
Mary of Puddin Hill. They are actually known for the mouth-watering fruitcakes, but when I was in college, we would always come to stock up on all the chocolate and candy we could ever imagine just before finals. Their peach tea is also very yummy to have with your lunch should you choose to dine in.
These days, both Faith and Jaxon point out everything they see and when we left MPH, they spotted the big Audie Murphy statue. So, being the little history geek that I am, we took the next exit, went over the bridge, and back around to see Mr. Audie. I'm sure the kids had no clue what I was even talking about when I spit out words like, freedom, WWII, soldier, heroes, etc, but one day they will.

We left MPH with brand new kaleidoscopes, Thomas the Train whistles, and plenty of chocolate almond bear claws--I excited to introduce the kids to one of my personal favorites. We'll have to add MPH to one of our traditional places we visit from time to time.

After reading this, I couldn't help but to also think about the freedom we have in and through Christ. Our chains are gone and we've been set free. (Galatians 5:1) I am also truly honored and humbled to live in America where people give their lives for us each and every day. Thank you to all the soldiers out there for your selfless acts for the sake of this nation.
