Five Finger Discount

~Two posts this afternoon~
We took a small trip to Watters Creek in Allen a couple of days ago. One of the stops we made was to Charming Charlie's, which is one of my favorite jewelry places to patronize. We talked to both Faith and Jaxon about not touching anything, but they were free to look with their eyes. After a nice dinner at Mi Cocinas we headed home, put the kids to bed, and Shawn and I watched a movie together. The next morning, while getting ready, I found a ring in Faith's bathroom with the price tag still on it. I recognize it from Charming Charlies and knew we had an interesting feat ahead of us. We summoned Faith to our bedroom and probed her for a bit. She was very upfront and veridical, telling us that she was just "taking care" of the ring for a little while. Of course we informed Faith of her disobedience to begin with, and expressed to her that we do not take anything from stores without permission, especially when the ring was never paid for. She immediately told us that she was very sorry for doing this to us. We opened the Bible and read a verse so she could see what God says about stealing. Exodus 20:15 (a commandment), was the main verse we used. So, this morning, we made a special trip back to CC so that Faith could return the ring to the store manager. I could tell by looking at Faith that she was pretty embarrassed and the manager thanked us for returning the ring. Train up a child...right? It seems that we are doing quite a bit of training these days, but I know in due time, the training will pay off. One day I will get to share this "charming" experience with her, but I am hoping, in the meantime, it doesn't happen again.

Telling the manager what she did...poor thing couldn't even look her in the eyes, she was pretty embarrassed.
The stolen merchandise of choice.
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Lisa, this just cracks me up. So sweet that she knew what she had done was wrong and she was embarrased to tell the Manager. What a great little girl you guys have raised!

Sounds like you handled it perfectly. No shame, just correction and restitution. I bet she won't do that again. :-)

OK, I love that you captured the whole thing on camera:). What a sweet but powerful lesson for Faith. You are really great parents!
