Before I start this post, I must unpackage some things. Some of you out there know that when Shawn was just seven years old; his dad committed suicide. I won't go into detail here about what led up to these events, but his dad was married before he got together with Shawn's mom. Out of that marriage came Kenneth and Chuck, Shawn's half brothers. Unfortunately, Chuck chose the same path that his father did, and in the midst of things; we lost contact with Kenneth and his family. Obviously Shawn and I have moved around quite a bit as did Kenneth and his family. Well, thankfully, we were reunited on Facebook a couple of months ago, and made plans to get together this weekend. The last time we saw Kenneth was when he and his family came to our wedding...a little over ten years ago....ten years too long! Since then, Ken has remarried and has taken in two more kiddos, precious Hailie and Bailie.
Saturday evening, Ken's family came to my M-I-L's house and we had such a great conversation. It was neat getting to see two of our nieces again, as well as meeting a new nephew and two new nieces. After much conversation, we went to Papacitas for dinner and then to Kilgore where their new house is located. Words really can't describe what a special night this was for Ken and Shawn both. I was of course excited to visit with my new sister-in-law and have some bonding time with the nieces and the one newphew, John. Now, we have a new reason to come to Longview and we are so excited about our mini-reunion we had this weekend!
