First Week Down...

Thirty-six more to go...what a wonderful week for the Copeland family.

Shawn: He seems to be enjoying his classes, and only has one class that might be a little rough. Shawn's freshman team is a group of hard workers and he thoroughly enjoys coaching up his boys. For those who didn't know, Shawn asked for a demotion and is no longer coaching Varsity. He's still the DSV coach and makes the videos, and we are glad to still go to Friday night football games. We're excited about having him home more early during the week and home on the weekends.

Lisa: Can I just say that I have the sweetest students this year...I know it's still the honeymoon, but I've got a good feeling. If the biggest problem I have this year is kids that don't want to share or participate (because of shyness); I'm golden. Although, I used some strategies/techniques to get them to vocalize their thoughts and opinions more, and they improved towards the end of the week. I wasn't sure how I'd do this year after teaching the SAME kids for the last three years, but so far, so good.

Jaxon: Mrs. Bell wrote us a sweet letter about Jaxon this week. She is very impressed with Jaxon and how he sets an example and helps the younger kids. She loves that he can write his name and match the uppercase to lowercase letters. The theme of the week was APPLES. Jaxon also had a special visitor come see him on Thursday....HIS DADDY. Shawn just conveniently walked downstairs and visited his favorite little buddy.

Faith: Faith LOVES kindergarten...PERIOD. If it were up to her...weekends away from school wouldn't even exist. They learned about sharing and respecting others this week. In Art, they learned how to draw straight lines, in Music, they learned a fun elephant song, and in P.E., they did the chicken dance and practiced the YMCA song. After school each day, Faith rides a bus with another kindergarten friend to my school, a mile away. She LOVES the bus...that's pick-up. Drop-off with Faith was sad to me this week. The first day, Shawn and I walked her to Mrs. Gage's class. The second day, I walked her to Mrs. Kay's classroom AGAINST her will. "Mom, I can do it all by myself." The third day, I followed Faith, AGAINST her will, twenty feet behind as she made her way to Mrs. Gage's classroom. Here's what happened the fourth day of school:

Yep, I dropped her off in the car line....waterworks all over again. We prayed while in line, hugged and kissed, did our I LOVE YOU sign-language, and said our goodbyes for the day. I was a complete wreck all over again! And, of course, the fifth day brought the same morning event.

Our school district doesn't allow for Kindergartners to nap during the school day, and that is totally fine with me, because Faith usually just reads books in her room while Jaxon naps at home anyway. With saying that, she is completely worn/wiped out by the end of the day. Being a kindergartner is HARD WORK, my friends!
