A Football Journey

Last May, an idea was born.  If you know my husband well, you know that he is full of ideas, his mind never stops with inventions, creations, IDEAS!  NON-STOP!  There was something different about this idea, though, because with each thought, with each prayer, we felt at peace about moving forward and making this a reality.  You couple this with another brilliant mind belonging to Darrick Ware, and it's game time!

So, what is A Football Journey?  I'm so glad you asked. :)

A Football Journey is a hands-on curriculum designed specifically for high school football players, to motivate and inspire greatness on and off the field.  Each year, each player will take part in ten fall lessons, four winter lessons, and nine spring lessons.  The seniors will only take part in ten fall lessons, but their manual will contain four bonus lessons.  Over the course of high school, each player will go through 83 different lessons.

What separates A Football Journey from the rest?

First, we have designed the lessons with an organized purpose.  Each lesson throughout the season is designed for each grade level and is presented at the right time when most football players will need that knowledge.  Secondly, we don’t just focus on specific character attributes.  Our curriculum is a collection of stories, advice, and encouragement on how each athlete can be a better football player, a better student, and one day a better man.  Thirdly, because we want the players to keep A Football Journey forever, we have included in each manual a scrapbook to keep record of their playing career.  Fourthly, we have goal-setting throughout the manuals.

In February, the writing of the books were officially complete, as well as the editing of the books.  We're getting our first set printed out as I blog.  God has truly blessed this endeavor, thusfar.  We've prayed for wisdom, discernment, certain people to cross our paths, etc, and we've seen God's hand through it all.  I am so excited to see what God has in store.  These books can only help, improve, and inspire today's youth.  We're starting with the sport of football, just packing the trailer basically, but if all goes well; I hope to be writing the girls side of the curriculum with some other friends.  Also, we hope to maybe the boys side, as well.  We'll see where the football set takes us first.

What's next? Shawn and Darrick will start making appointments with Athletic Directors all across the Lone Star State, to try and sell their books for that school's entire football program.  We know a few AD's in Oklahoma, as well.  We've also bought a vendor booth at one of the largest coaching clinics in San Angelo, so there is a summer trip happening at the beginning of June.

In the meantime, like A Football Journey, on Facebook, and check out our website.  www.afootballjourney.com.
